Baladino in Grand Forks, ND

Although Baladino’s tour with Arts Midwest World Fest has come to a close, the spirited energy they’ve brought into the communities they’ve visisted in the Midwest will remain long after the tour.

They spent a week in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where their music inspired and instilled joy in their audiences after a very long and difficult winter. Thanks to the North Valley Arts Council for their work in coordinating the week’s workshops, events, and the public concert.

Three people smiling together

Yonnie Dror has the distinction of having been a member of two bands to have toured the Midwest with Arts Midwest World Fest, Yamma Ensemble and Baladino. While in Detroit Lakes, MN with Yamma Ensemble, he made friends with Becky Mitchell (left) and Amy Stoller Stearns (right) of the Historic Holmes Theater.

They were eager to reconnect with Yonnie and experience his new work with Baladino, so they drove all the way from Detroit Lakes to Grand Forks to catch a workshop. What a happy reunion! It is wonderful to see former Arts Midwest World Fest communities staying engaged with the program and connecting with the current communities.

Older residents watch a performance by Baladino

At a performance at Valley Memorial Home, Baladino’s music offered residents the wonder and excitement of meeting new friends and hearing new music that recall the experience of travelling.

Performance in a high school auditorium

Grand Forks Central High School is proud of having a high quality auditorium, which they were used for three workshops with Baladino.

Yael poses in front of a poster

Yael was proud to see the poster for the public concert at the The Empire Arts Center prominently displayed. The Empire Arts Center is called “the jewel in the heart of greater Grand Forks” because of its long history in downtown Grand Forks. Originally a movie theater when it opened in 1919, it has broadened its repertoire to include concerts, theater productions, performing arts, speakers, and films.
