Paulo Padilha and Group in the Twin Cities

By Ken Carlson

Paulo Padilha and Group landed in Minneapolis on September 25 to begin their first Arts Midwest World Fest tour. The group’s infectious rhythms will have the entire Midwest dancing by the time the group wraps up this tour in early November.

On the ground for barely 24 hours, the ensemble took the stage at North High School in St. Paul and delivered a workshop that prompted Choral Director Peg Sorensen to write, “My students absolutely LOVED the assembly. Lots of energy in the room, and Paolo really connected with our students. Always keep us in mind for future artists please!”

The ensemble conducted another workshop at Tartan High School that afternoon before enjoying some very spicy Indian food to celebrate the beginning of this tour.

Saturday night Paulo and the group took the stage at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis and performed a concert that featured the ensemble’s substantial collection of rhythms and instruments.

We were delighted that board members, donors, and staff members were among the crowd that evening. The ensemble is currently in Sisseton, SD and continues on from there to Orange City, IA; Grand Forks, ND; Bemidji, MN; and Rice Lake, WI.
