Paulo Padilha and Group in Sisseton, SD
By Ken Carlson
The Paulo Padilha and Group tour is off to a great start in Sisseton, South Dakota. The Sisseton Arts Council welcomed the group on a beautiful evening at the 75-foot Nicollet Tower just outside Sisseton. On such a beautiful night one could probably not see all the way to São Paulo from here, but it felt that way.

Members of the Arts Council prepared a feast for all the guests that included a wonderful collection of South Dakota foods. Three soups—pumpkin, dumpling soup, and Dakota corn soup, and buffalo meatballs, fry bread with plum wojapi, and beer bread with a beautiful array of German kuchen for dessert!

It didn’t take Paulo long to get folks up and dancing to the infectious Brazilian rhythms the ensemble shared that evening. Getting acquainted at the table in the second photo is Rebecca Cruse, the Assistant Director of the South Dakota Arts Council, Jane Rasmussen of the Sisseton Arts Council and Paulo Padilha.
