Celebrating the 2015–2017 Arts Midwest World Fest

By Ken Carlson

The 2015–2017 Arts Midwest World Fest cycle has come to an end. Well over three hundred workshops in schools and community locations for people of all ages, thirty-six public concerts, one rough snowstorm, and countless wonderful connections—a few of which you can see in the photos below.

We thank our ensembles for sharing their spirited music with such warmth and dedication. These ensembles brought joy and wonderful energy to communities in the region, and we couldn’t have done it without them.

  • Le Vent du Nord from Québec, Canada
  • Baladino from Israel
  • Anda Union from Inner Mongolia, China
  • Lorraine Klaasen from South Africa
  • Aysenur Kolivar from Turkey

We had nine terrific partner communities who met our passion for this work and hosted each group with eagerness and skill, and we’d like to thank them all!

  • Forest City Community School District and Waldorf University in Forest City, IA
  • Encore Performing Arts in Plymouth, IN
  • McKendree University in Lebanon, IL
  • Croswell Opera House in Adrian, MI
  • Northwest Minnesota Arts Council and its work with Thief River Falls, MN
  • Three Rivers Arts Council in Wahpeton, ND
  • Murphy Theatre in Wilmington, OH
  • Brookings Arts Council in Brookings, SD
  • Nicolet College in Rhinelander, WI

And we thank those who generously supported the 2015–2017 cycle of Arts Midwest World Fest including the National Endowment for the Arts, 3M Foundation, and Anime Twin Cities. Additional support was provided by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Heritage Foundation Grants Fund of The Minneapolis Foundation for Anda Union, the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest for Baladino, and the Délégation du Québec à Chicago for Le Vent du Nord. This activity was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Arts Midwest is also generously supported by Illinois Arts Council Agency, Indiana Arts Commission, Iowa Arts Council, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Minnesota State Arts Board, North Dakota Council on the Arts, Ohio Arts Council, South Dakota Arts Council, and Wisconsin Arts Board.

This program would not be possible without incredible support, partners, and artists, and we hope the connections and curiosity sparked will continue long past these two years.

So enjoy a few photos from the final 2017–2019 tours… and stay tuned for more from 2017–2019!
